Oklahomans Give Auto Bailout Thumbs Down

SurveyUSA reports that 63 percent of Oklahomans are opposed to a federal bailout of the auto industry.

The poll, taken for KFOR-Channel 4 in Oklahoma City, found just 24 percent support the idea.

SurveyUSA: McCain, Inhofe, Cloud Win, Murphy And Roth In Race Too Close To Call

A new poll by SurveyUSA for KFOR-TV, Channel 4 shows a John McCain blow-out of Barack Obama in Oklahoma, a solid victory for incumbent Republican Senator Jim Inhofe, a win for incumbent Republican Corporation Commissioner Jeff Cloud and a horse race between Republican Dana Murphy and incumbent Democrat Jim Roth for the short-term seat on the Corporation Commission.

The numbers:

McCain-Palin ~ 63 percent; Obama-Biden ~ 34 percent.

Inhofe ~ 56 percent; Andrew Rice 36 percent.

Cloud ~ 55 percent; Charles Gray 39 percent.

Roth ~ 49 percent; Murphy 46 percent (margin of error is 4.1 percent).

SurveyUSA: Terrill Far Ahead Of Opponent

From SurveyUSA For KFOR-Channel 4 ~ In an election for Oklahoma state House of Representatives in Oklahoma's 53rd legislative District today, Republican incumbent Randy Terrill (pictured) defeats Democrat Troy Green 56% to 39%, according to this latest exclusive KFOR-TV poll conducted by SurveyUSA.

Terrill leads among men and women, young and old, in the survey of 550 registered voters. About 19% of Republicans cross over to vote for Green; 26% of Democrats cross over to vote for Terrill. Independents split.

Among the small number of Oklahomans who have already voted via absentee ballot, Terrill leads by 50 points; among likely voters, Terrill leads by 15.

SurveyUSA: Jim Inhofe Over Andrew Rice By 22%, McCain-Palin Over Obama-Biden By 33%

A new SurveyUSA poll taken September 5-7 for KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City shows the McCain-Palin ticket up 33 points over the Obama-Biden ticket in the presidential race and Senator Jim Inhofe up 22 points over Andrew Rice in the U. S. Senate race.

The poll found the McCain-Palin ticket at 65 percent, Obama-Biden at just 32 percent.

In the Senate race, it was Inhofe 56 percent, Rice 34 percent.

The state is not considered in play for Obama, as it hasn't voted Democratic in a presidential election since 1964.

State Media Polling Firms Tops In Nation

An analysis of political polling firms whose primary clients are the public or the news media shows that two of them who poll for Oklahoma media outlets are among the highest ranked in the nation.

The analysis, actually a listing of all polling firms based on a sliding scale of the accuracy of their polling data percentages (not whether they predicted winners), is compiled by SurveyUSA, a national firm that polls for KFOR-TV, Channel 4, in Oklahoma City.

In the listing, SurveyUSA itself is listed 5th. The firm has been remarkably accurate in previous surveys for KFOR. It was the first polling firm to report the likelihood that Democrat Brad Henry would upset Republican Steve Largent in the 2002 governor's race.

The only Oklahoma firm listed is SoonerPoll, which conducts polls for the Tulsa World and KOTV, Channel 6. It is listed 33rd, right behind the Gallup Poll, with which it is numerically tied in the ranking. Pollster Bill Shapard also partners with Keith Gaddie in the firm TvPoll, with KWTV, Channel 9, as a client.

Gallup is listed 32nd in the analysis, which includes about 50 firms. Fox News is listed 8th, Zogby 10th, Rasmussen 20th, Mason-Dixon 24th.

The listings do not include survey research firms that routinely poll for clients and whose poll results are not disclosed. That would include the firms of Cole Hargrave Snodgrass And Associates (which does publish some results in its Sooner Survey) and Wilson Research Strategies, Washington-based firm with an Oklahoma City office and with political and corporate clients here and across the country.

SurveyUSA: Henry Sustains Popularity

Governor Brad Henry's statewide approval is 75 percent, SurveyUSA reports in a statewide poll conducted for KFOR-TV, Channel 4.

The governor receives broad support across both political parties, all age groups, both sides of the state and among those with diverse political views, SurveyUSA found.

Among Democrats, 79 percent approve and 15 percent disapprove. Among Republicans, 72 percent approve and 26 percent disapprove. Among Independents, it is 62-39 percent, the poll found.

The poll was conducted September 26th.

Bush Approval Rating Plummets

President Bush's approval rating in Oklahoma has plummeted, SurveyUSA found in a statewide poll conducted for KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City.

Just 39 percent now approve, while 59 percent disapprove, the poll found.

Among Republicans, Bush won approval from 73 percent, while 26 percent disapprove. Among Democrats, only 19 percent approve, with 78 percent disapproving. Among Independents, 33 percent approve, 64 percent disapprove.
