How Will Rice's Liberal Buddies React?

Senate candidate Andrew Rice's embrace of today's U. S. Supreme Court ruling on the 2nd Amendment begs the question: How will his liberal buddies, including Kurt Hochenauer, the "Doc Hoc" of the liberal blog Okie Funk, react since Hochenauer is an avowed firearms opponent? The Daily Kos is another huge Rice fan that regularly rails against the private ownership of firearms and supports gun control efforts.

Oklahoma City radio and television personality Ron Black, honored by the Oklahoma Rifle Association last year for his outspoken defense of the 2nd Amendment, said today, "Senator Andrew Rice supports the right to keep and bear arms about like Harry Reid supports drilling in ANWR. Rice is correct about how Oklahomans feel about the 2nd Amendment, but we also know a poser when we see one."

Others weighed in today after seeing Rice's comments posted here.

"Isn't this the guy who bragged about helping stop concealed carry on campus?" asked one writer.

"Isn't this a guy with a goober rating from the NRA?" asked another. (If a rating of "?" equals "goober," that might be the case. Here's how the NRA's Institute of Legislative Action describes the rating it gave State Senate candidate Rice in 2006: "Failed to answer NRA-PVF candidate questionnaire, often an indication of indifference, if not outright hostility, to gun owners' and sportsmen's rights.")

Liberal Blogger Says McMahan Must Go

From http://www.okiefunk.com/ ~ State Auditor and Inspector Jeff McMahan needs to explain to Oklahoman voters why felony charges against him are bogus or resign his position.

The argument that he should not talk about the charges publicly because of his personal legal problems is specious and absurd. The voters deserve better. He was elected by the people, and the people need to know the truth.

McMahan, a Democrat, pictured right, has been charged with receiving excessive campaign contributions in 2002 from a businessman identified in the media as Steve Phipps. In return, McMahan did special favors for him as auditor, the charges allege. McMahan’s wife has been charged with him, and they face a total of 135 years in jail.

Phipps is a longtime business associate of former state Sen. Gene Stipe, a Democrat, and has pleaded guilty to mail fraud and paying kickbacks to three state legislators. Stipe pleaded guilty to federal charges in 2003 for funneling illegal campaign contributions to Walt Roberts, who ran for a congressional seat in 1998.

Unfortunately, the charges fuel the narrative that it is still good ol’ boy politics in the Oklahoma Democratic Party. Is it true? Where is the party leadership? When the charges were first announced, Gov. Brad Henry appropriately called for McMahan to take an administrative leave. New information related to the charges surfaced later, however, that clearly demands McMahan resign his position unless he can bring forward a convincing argument to Oklahoma voters.

Did McMahan and his wife accept money, jewelry and trips from someone who then received political favors? Again, if there is clear evidence the charges against McMahan are untrue, he needs to share that information with all of us. If not, then Henry, perhaps the most popular governor in the state’s history, should publicly call on McMahan to resign.

McMahan has apparently turned over his duties to others in his office, but that simply does not cut it. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma House is proceeding with an impeachment investigation. To their credit, Democratic legislators are supporting the impeachment proceedings, but this should not be necessary, and it only draws out the painful spectacle.

This year promises to be a good one for Democrats on a national level, but McMahan’s problems have the potential to affect local races here. Democrats who want to get elected this year should distance themselves from the Oklahoma Democratic Party if it will not vigorously call on McMahan to step down or explain himself. Democratic Party Chairperson Ivan Holmes should be unequivocal on the issue.

Riding the Bull: Lloyd Fields’ Guitar Caper ~ Here is another reason state Democrats should be worried about the party’s image problems: Labor Commissioner Lloyd Fields.

Fields apparently did a ten-hour stint in an Oklahoma City detox center after he was nabbed for taking a performer’s guitar at a Saturday after party for a local bull riding event. Fields later apologized and called the guitar incident a “practical joke.” Of course, it was no joke that he chose to go to a detox center after someone tackled him as he was leaving with the guitar. Well, I guess it depends on how you look at it, right? This one will surely make it into the Okie Spectacle Hall of Fame: Alcohol, bull riders, a "gee-tar," and a leading, statewide public official who ends up sleeping it off in a detox center.

Fields was elected Labor Commissioner in 2006. His campaign manager was Ivan Holmes, chairperson of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. Again, the Oklahoma Democratic Party faces image problems going into the 2008 elections. What about all the people who have worked diligently against the right-wing juggernaut here for years? Do we all just have to stand by and watch it all be for nothing in a good national year for Democrats because of alleged political corruption and Fields’ silliness and Democratic legislators who cannot file their taxes on time and whatever is to come?

Okie Funk is the product of Edmond college professor Kurt Hochenauer, "Doc Hoc," who usually rants at Republicans. Thus, this post aimed at Democrats draws special attention.

Rice Supporter Steps Up Inhofe Attacks

"Doc Hoc," the infamous liberal blogger and MoveOn.org and Salon.com writer who teaches at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, is out with his latest attack on Republican Senator Jim Inhofe, whom he wants replaced by freshman State Senator Andrew Rice. Kurt Hochenauer of "Okie Funk" says today, "Inhofe, the infamous global warming denier, has turned his legendary right-wing wrath against Oklahoma children." Hochenauer is credited by liberal Democrats with talking Rice into seeking the Democratic Senate nomination to oppose Inhofe next year. Hochenauer's attacks on Inhofe now occur almost daily, with simultaneous plugs for Rice.

Red Oklahoma: 'DocHoc' Goes National

From Red Oklahoma ~ Kurt “DocHoc” Hochenauer, the UCO professor responsible for the draft Andrew Rice website RunAndrewRun.com, must be feeling the heat from recent coverage of his hateful words and association with the Rice for Senate campaign.

Since the revelation of his support for the MoveOn “General Betray Us” ad on RedOklahoma and The McCarville Report’s coverage of “DocHoc’s Dark Vision for America,” he has gone politically silent on his personal blog, OkieFunk.

Could it be Hochenauer and the Rice campaign regret the exposure of their hate speech? Though he hasn’t recently graced Oklahoma with such hate, that doesn’t mean he’s given up. Instead, he’s moved to DailyKos, a national extreme liberal safe haven that shares Hochenauer’s support for MoveOn.

In today’s DocHoc Diatribe, he questions Inhofe’s “mental stability,” calling Inhofe “Oklahoma’s most embarassing political leader.” But before he’s done with his most recent angry tirade, he makes a fundraising appeal for Andrew Rice.

Even after the revelation they believe General Patraeus will rise to American dictator, their commendation of MoveOn for their attacks on a true American patriot, and a prediction of $10/gallon gas as a result of a Fred Thompson Presidency, they haven’t given up on the hate speech.

They’ve just relocated to a place they hoped nobody would notice.

Doc Hoc's Dark Vision For America, Oklahoma

Kurt Hochenauer (self-described as "Doc Hoc"), God help us all, is a University of Central Oklahoma English Department professor whose vision is dark and dangerous. The following is a small sample of the garbage this ultra-liberal moonbat pedals on his blog, Okie Funk: Let me take you into your very possible future. It’s September 19, 2009. Fred Thompson is president and the House and Senate on both the federal and state level have clear Republican majorities. The Iraq occupation drags on with no end in sight, and now we’re fighting in Iran, too. Every aspect of our private lives—our phone calls, emails, personal conservations (sic)—is scrutinized by Republican government operatives. More people are without health insurance than ever. The richest one percent of Americans own even more of the wealth and land in the country. American and foreign prisoners are routinely tortured on the slimmest evidence of wrongdoing. In Oklahoma, government has become completely privatized. Our bridges are collapsing and huge potholes on our highways go unrepaired, causing accidents that kill and injure. Gasoline is $10 a gallon. National Guardsmen patrol state borders and make sure everyone has a long-list of required documents proving they are citizens. If you do not have the required ten documents then it is off to jail with you for some good ol’ American torture complete with sexual humiliation and waterboarding that may or may not result in your death.

Hochenauer's wild rants have made him a conservative target. Here's an example, from Red State: "For those of us on the right, it comes as no surprise considering the lies, rhetoric and hatred for America that moveon.org, Daily Kos, Okie Funk and their ilk have spewed for the past 7+ years, but to most Democrats it will come as a complete shock and awe when that venom is spewed at them. Target: Former San Francisco Mayor, US Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) CA- Described by Okie Funk as extreme rightwing and a patsy for the Bush Imperial Presidency along with a long list of Democrats Okie Funk has targeted for 'un-election' are now in the crosshairs. Okie Funk is calling to break up the Democrat party at the same time he urges all Democrats to come together in order to prevent what he frighteningly describes as 'a new totalitarian America' which he claims without any evidence whatsoever is certain to come if Republicans win in '08."

Here's another example, from http://www.redoklahoma.org/: "Just in case you think the controversy over MoveOn.org’s 'General Petraeus or General Betray Us?' ad is something all Oklahomans can agree is inappropriate and disgusting, think again. According to a certain leading liberal voice here in state, the advertisement 'should be commended, not criticized.' Those words are from none other than Kurt 'DocHoc' Hochenauer, who frequently posts on a liberal blog site. But he doesn’t stop at commending the ad, he goes so far as to predict a future in which General Petraeus becomes dictator: 'The government, under continued neoconservative rule, will surely become a bonafide fascist/military dictatorship. Heck, in a few years, Petraeus will be dictator.'"

(The original posting of this article prompted an illogical outburst from another liberal Democrat, Tim Reese, one of a few dozen regular posters on a local blog, http://www.demookie.com/. Reese accused TMRO of attacking "bloggers" and opposing free speech: "McCarville's blog is basically an 'unofficial' wing of the Republican Party. He has apparently run out of Democrat Politicians to criticize so he has begun attacking bloggers. Be careful of expressing your ideas... apparently Mike has been made chief of the 'Idea Police' and he doesn't like any ideas that don't fall in step with his own. This is a mere follow up to the organized attack on Moveon.org.")
