BELLMON DEAD
Former Republican Governor and U. S. Senator Henry Bellmon, 88, died about 8 a.m. this morning, numerous Republican sources report.
Bellmon died at an Enid hospital as a result of complications from Parkinson's disease. His family was with Bellmon when he died.
Bellmon was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease after completing his second term as Oklahoma governor in 1991. He had been hospitalized with complications from the disease since Sunday. Democratic Leader Danny Morgan, D-Prague, said, “Oklahoma lost an icon today with the passing of former governor and United States Senator Henry Bellmon. He was a true statesman, and his legacy will be felt for years to come. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
