McDaniel, Silk Win Party Nominations In HD1

Democrat Curtis McDaniel and Republican Joe Silk won their party nominations in the House District 1 primaries in southeastern Oklahoma.

McDaniel, 59, of Smithville, won 68.2 percent of the votes cast. He received 1,254 votes, and Donald Ray, 66, of Idabel, a retired Haworth Public Schools superintendent, had 586 votes.

Joe Silk, 54, of Hochatown, won 50.1 percent of the GOP votes.

Silk, owner of Turning Leaf Inn, received 235 votes, while Kenny Sivard, 24, of Broken Bow, got 135 votes, or 28.8 percent, and Kevin George, 47, of Garvin, got 83 votes, or 17.7 percent.

Keith Bain, 55, of Valliant, who is in a Texas jail unable to post bail on a felony charge of assault on a public servant, received 16 votes.
