Holland: Cut Higher Ed Funding Formula

Rep. Cory Holland
From www.newsok.com ~  A Republican state lawmaker says he hopes to revive a bill that would reduce funding for Oklahoma's colleges and universities.

The bill by state Rep. Cory Holland would cut nearly $192 million in spending on state colleges by removing a provision in the higher education funding formula that takes into account spending among peer universities in other states.

Holland delivered a report to lawmakers on Wednesday as part of a presentation by the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs — a conservative think-tank.

He says Oklahoma spends more than $1.5 billion each year on higher education with little oversight on exactly how that money is spent. He says he's concerned that thousands of university employees earn more than $100,000 each year — but do little classroom teaching.
