Third Vote Count Makes Baker Cherokee Winner

Following a third count of votes, challenger Bill John Baker was named winner of the election as the next Cherokee Nation principal chief.

His margin of victory: 266 votes, 7,613 to 7,347 for incumbent Chief Chad Smith.

The recount was ordered by the Cherokee Nation Supreme Court.
