Part III: Blood Pressure, Vitals Go South

The Gadfly On His Back

The time between the Friday morning euphoria and the crash, it now seems, lasted 41-milliseconds.

With the aortal valve replacement on Wednesday morning working well and no sign of complications, I was hopeful of a late-week dismissal from Oklahoma Heart Hospital. My blood pressure was right on target...until it crashed. My vitals were good...until they crashed.

By Friday evening, my "recovery" was in reverse. By Saturday, we were trying to anticipate what the next problem might be.
