OKC Mayor Candidate G. D. Spradlin Dead At 90

G. D. Spradlin, who become a Hollywood movie star after failing in a bid to become mayor of Oklahoma City in 1965, has died in California at age 90.

Spradlin, an attorney for Phillips Petroleum Company, became an independent oilman in 1951 and in the next nine years, amassed a fortune that allowed him to retire. He and his family lived in the huge mansion on Kelley Boulevard north of Northeast 63rd Street.

Spradlin moved to California in the mid-1960s. He starred as a corrupt U. S. Senator in the Godfather and appeared in numerous other popular movies.
