Opinion: Public Education Destroying Itself

Robert J. O'Connor expressed misgivings about a state law to provide scholarships to underprivileged children to attend private schools. O'Connor thinks this will eventually lead to a voucher system for all Oklahoma students, which in his words would “destroy public education.”

This bill will not destroy public education.

Public education is doing a pretty good job of destroying itself. It needs no assistance from anybody or anything else.

Public education is government-controlled education. When someone asks me why we homeschooled our four daughters, all I have to do is cite the latest news stories or statistics about the ongoing moral and educational decline in our school systems.

There is a reason why parents are seeking other options in educating their children. Perhaps it's because they want their children to be educated — really educated — without the added fears of their children being bullied, raped, shot at, drugged or stabbed before they walk into their first classroom for the day. ~ Chris Humphreys, Guthrie
