Fallin Criticizes Obama Oil Release Decision

Governor Fallin today criticized the Obama Administration’s decision to release 30 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).

“The president’s decision to begin draining our national energy reserves is shortsighted, transparently political and ineffective. The SPR exists as a national security tool meant to address sudden disruptions in energy supplies. It is not meant to be, or even capable of being used as, a long term method of controlling the price of gasoline.

“Pursuing short term, band-aid fixes at the expense of a comprehensive strategy to increase the production of American energy is bad policy. The president should shift his focus to increasing domestic energy production, which will create jobs and boost the national economy.”
