Lankford Visits 45th Infantry At Camp Gruber

Congressman James Lankford spent the first day of his district work period traveling to Camp Gruber in northeast Oklahoma, touring the post, being briefed on the 45th Infantry Brigade’s upcoming mission in Afghanistan, and visiting Oklahoma troops preparing for their deployment.

Approximately 3,200 Oklahoma National Guardsmen will be deployed soon, with about a quarter of them coming from the Fifth Congressional District.

Due to the Congressional schedule, Lankford was unable to attend the ceremony honoring the troops at the Oklahoma City Arena last month, so visiting with the troops in person was a priority for him this week.

“I was proud and humbled to have the opportunity to thank these great young soliders in person,” said Lankford, who met with National Guard commander General Myles Deering during his tour of the base. “They’re sacrificing their time, their careers and their families in the defense of freedom around the world, and it was a great honor to spend a short time with them yesterday.”
