Barresi, Pruitt Confer On Ed Board Meeting

Schools Superintendent
Janet Barresi
The Associated Press reports today that Oklahoma's new state schools superintendent, Janet Barresi, said she's spoken with Attorney General Scott Pruitt about what she thinks are possible violations of the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act during a contentious state Board of Education meeting last week.

During last Thursday's meeting, board members accused Barresi of breaking the law by paying proposed staffers with private money, while Barresi said the board members broke the open-meetings law by conducting votes that were not listed on the agenda.

She said Tuesday she thinks board members also might have communicated before the meeting concerning what might happen, but doesn't know if a majority of the members were involved at any one time.
