Barresi Backers To Attend Board Meeting

Supporters of Schools Superintendent Janet Barresi, including Republican legislators, plan to be present this morning when the Board of Education meets.

Among those planning to attend: Barresi supporters who are rallying through Facebook and other social networks, members of Americans for Prosperity, and GOP members of the Legislature.

Stuart Jolly, Oklahoma director of Americans for Prosperity, invited citizens to gather outside of the Hodge Education Building at 9:00 for a public showing of support for "real education reform."

A month ago, the board generated controversy when it refused to approve Barresi's hiring of her senior staff members; the power play by the Democratic members of the board backfired and the GOP-controlled Legislature is now poised to strip the board of its power and change its membership.
