Mike Reynolds: Impeach Judge Miles-LaGrange

Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange
By Jerry Bohnen/NewsRadio 1000 KTOK ~ Oklahoma City Federal Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange, the one who ruled against State Question 755 on the Shariah law last year, is the target of an impeachment effort in the state legislature.

State Representative Mike Reynolds has filed House Resolution 5 calling for the House to request Congress to remove Judge Miles-LaGrange from the bench.

"Judge LaGrange took it upon herself to tell the State Election board they couldn't certify the election and that had nothing to do with the resolution adopted by the people."

His resolution says there 'has been no allegation that the conduct of the election in any way violated the provisons of either the United States Constitution or the Oklahoma Constitution'. It claimed 'certification of the results of the election is not within the judicial authority' of the judge.

Rep. Mike Reynolds
"She just decided to abort our election procedures. Judge LaGrange exceeded her judicial authority and no one complained there were irregularities in this election," said Reynolds in an interview with KTOK News.

The judge issued a ruling last fall after voters in November overwhelming approved SQ755 which banned state courts from considering Shariah law in rulings. The ruling put the approval on hold and would not allow a certification of the votes. The original lawsuit was filed by a Muslim who claimed the state question was a violation of his constitutional rights.

Reynolds' resolution calls on the State House to ask Congress to remove her from the bench. Miles-LaGrange is the Chief U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Oklahoma and received her lifetime appointment in 1994 when she was nominated by President Clinton.
