Eason McIntyre Says She's Hanging It Up; Jabar Shumate Says He Will Seek Senate Seat

Senator Judy Eason McIntyre of Tulsa says she's hanging it up after this term and won't seek reelection next year.

The Tulsa World reports she plans to travel, do artwork and volunteer.

At the end of her current term, the Democrat will have served two years in the House and eight years in the Senate.

Rep. Jabar Shumate, D-Tulsa, said he will run for McIntyre's Senate seat.

McIntyre, 65, who had a double mastectomy in 2006 as part of her fight against breast cancer, will have been cancer-free for five years in October, she said.
