Fallin To Attend Boehner's DC 'Summit'

From www.politico.com ~ Incoming House Speaker John Boehner is hosting a summit Wednesday with 15 newly elected Republican governors to talk about spending cuts and jobs.

[Oklahoma's Mary Fallin will attend the summit.]

It’s Boehner’s most recent overture to governors, as both federal and state governments wrestle with huge budget deficits.

Topping the summit’s list will be repealing health care overhaul legislation – the incoming speaker’s office likened the GOP’s strategy of working with governors to repeal the law to the 1996 welfare reforms.

"Washington doesn't have all the answers, and the best solutions usually come from outside the Beltway," Boehner said. "Republicans may still be outnumbered in Washington, but with the American people and reform-minded governors standing with us, there's a lot we can do together to stop runaway government spending and help small businesses get back to creating jobs."

Among those that will attend are a few Beltway veterans: Incoming Gov. Sam Brownback, who was a Republican senator and House member from Kansas; Mary Fallin of Oklahoma, who was in the House; and former Rep. John Kasich of Ohio. Also attending will be Alabama’s Robert Bentley, Rick Scott (Fla.), Terry Branstad (Iowa), Paul LePage (Maine), Rick Snyder (Mich.), Brian Sandoval (Nev.), Susana Martinez (N.M.), Tom Corbett (Pa.), Nikki Haley (S.C.), Dennis Daugaard (S.D.), Bill Haslam (Tenn.) and Matt Mead (Wyo.)
