Dan Boren Moves To Strip Power From Pelosi
Jim Myers of the Tulsa World reports from Washington this morning that Democratic Congressman Dan Boren is "helping to lead an effort to change Democratic caucus rules and strip power away from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
"Under the changes sought by the Oklahoma Democrat, Pelosi would no longer have the power to make appointments to key party leadership positions such as top posts at the rules, steering and policy, and campaign committees.
"A change in the rules would be seen as a serious blow to Pelosi's influence within her own caucus. It also would allow a greater voice to rank-and-file members, including more moderate members such as Boren, a member of the so-called Blue Dog Caucus whose focus is on budget issues.
"Boren previously announced he would not support Pelosi, D-Calif., in her bid to remain her party's top leader in the House. Despite a number of defections, she is expected to win and serve as House minority leader next year."
Democrats are scheduled to hold their caucus meeting Wednesday.
