Costello Says Party Affiliation Won't Count

Republican Labor Commissioner-elect Mark Costello says party affiliation won't count when he hires new employees at the Department of Labor.

Costello, speaking on radio station KTOK, discussed his campaign and his plans for the office.

There has been speculation that Costello will replace all of Democratic incumbent Lloyd Fields' hires with Republicans. Costello's statement seems to indicate that won't necessarily be the case.

The department's financial recap shows a "personal services" budget of about $6.3 million involving about 114 employees.
