McFerron: Brecheen Has Lead Over Gumm

On the heels of The McCarville Report Online's analysis of the Josh Brecheen-Jay Paul Gumm race in Little Dixie's State Senate District 6 (http://wwwtmrcom.blogspot.com/2010/10/in-little-dixie-classic-battle.html), Oklahoma City pollster Pat McFerron says Republican Brecheen has the lead, 46 to 40 percent.

The survey was conducted by Cole Hargrave Snodgrass & Associates between September 29th and October 2nd, McFerron said.

If those poll numbers prove true, Brecheen may record a historic win in solidly-Democratic southeastern Oklahoma.

“Brecheen’s lead may seem surprising to some in this traditionally Democratic area of the state, but Barack Obama is redefining partisan lines. In this district, fully 71% of the voters have an unfavorable impression of the president, and these voters are flocking to Republicans like Tom Coburn and Josh Brecheen at an incredible pace,” said McFerron, the firm's director of survey research who conducted the poll.

“With Tom Coburn garnering 59% in the district, and a substantial generic advantage for Republicans, I actually see more room for Brecheen to grow. If he is able to muster the resources to run a full campaign, he has a great opportunity to win,” McFerron concluded.
