GOP Registrations Show Largest Gain

State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax reports today that there's been a net increase of more than 40,000 voters in Oklahoma since January 15th and the Republican Party has claimed 28,599 of them.

Both recognized political parties and Independents have had a net increase in registered voters this year, Ziriax said. Here is a comparison of the net increase in voters from January 15 to October 15, 2010:

§ Democrats net increase = +313
§ Republicans net increase = +28,599
§ Independents net increase = +11,482
§ Total voters net increase = +40,394

As a percentage of all registered voters, Democrats have dropped from 49.0% to 48.1%; Republicans have increased from 39.9% to 40.5%; and Independents have increased from 11.1% to 11.4% since January 15.

Here is a summary of Oklahoma's voter registration totals as of Oct. 15, 2010:

§ Dem = 1,000,168 (48.1%)
§ Rep = 841, 757 (40.5%)
§ Ind = 237,089 (11.4%)
§ Tot = 2,079,014
