Melvin Moran To Be Honored By OIPA

Melvin Moran of Seminole will be inducted into the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association's Wildcatters Hall of Honor during the group's fall conference September 12th in Tulsa.

Moran's appointment to the Tourism and Recreation Commission was his sixth appointment by six consecutive governors. Prior to Tourism, his most recent appointment was to the Oklahoma Arts Council. The former mayor of Seminole (shown at left on the cover of a book about his life) manages two oil and gas companies and serves on a large number of local and statewide boards and commissions. He served on the initial board of BancFirst and continues service on the board of Oklahoma's largest state-chartered bank.

He and his wife, Jasmine, founded the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum which is now a major state tourist attraction. Moran was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1997.
