Henry To Serve As Chairman Of No-SQ744 Coalition

Governor Henry said today he's agreed to be the statewide chairman of a group opposed to State Question 744, which would dramatically increase funding for public schools at a high cost to taxpayers.

Henry said the decision was"painful." He's a longtime supporter of increasing funding for education.

Henry said that while he is sympathetic with the goal of increasing education funding, passage of the question would cause fiscal havoc on state government.
SQ744 is a proposed constitutional amendment that would require the state to meet the regional average of per-student spending at an estimated cost of $1.7 billion over the next three years.
