BA School Audit Will Remain Secret, Burrage Says

The final draft of a controversial audit requested by the Broken Arrow school board is exempt from Oklahoma open records laws and does not have to be released to the public, Auditor and Inspector Steve Burrage said today.

Released audits are subject to the law, but unreleased versions are not, according to a letter from the Attorney General’s Office to the Auditor’s Office
Burrage said that because he never signed the audit, it is not considered to be released and is exempt from the law.

The audit was obtained by radio station KTOK's news director, Jerry Bohnen, who reported on it several weeks ago. That disclosure kicked off a series of charges by the Republican candidate for the office, Gary Jones, and by Rep. Mike Reynolds of Oklahoma City.
