Stevens Dies In Alaska Plane Crash

UPDATE: Dave Dittman, a former aide and longtime family friend of former Sen. Ted Stevens, says Stevens was killed in the crash.

A plane with former Senator Ted Stevens and former NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe aboard crashed in southwest Alaska, killing five people on board.

The single-engine DeHavilland Otter, equipped with pontoons for water landings, crashed in a remote area northwest of Dillingham that is difficult to access. Stevens, 86, was one of two survivors in a 1978 plane crash at Anchorage International Airport that killed his wife, Ann, and several others.
