Thompson Support Group Spends $64,000

Business Leaders of Oklahoma, a group composed mostly of state construction companies and headed by lobbyist Bobby Stem, has spent $64,000 on behalf of 5th District congressional candidate Rep. Mike Thompson.

The group's report to the Federal Election Commission shows it raised $74,000 in about two weeks and spent much of it on television commercials for Thompson.

Under federal election law, the ads for Thompson are considered an independent expenditure, or money spent for a candidate by a group that’s not directly affiliated with the campaign.

The latest poll shows Thompson running third to Kevin Calvey and James Lankford.
