Gun Owners Of America Back Calvey

The Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund today announced the group's endorsement of Kevin Calvey in the 5th congressional district Republican primary.
Former Rep. Calvey authored the Oklahoma “Stand Your Ground” bill, which was signed into law in 2006.

One of the strongest of such bills in the country, Calvey’s legislation removed a person’s “duty to retreat” in the face of criminal attack, and assured a victim’s presumption of innocence if he or she shoots a thug who forcibly and unlawfully entered a home or vehicle.

Calvey also authored a Vermont-style concealed carry bill, and supported legislation to prohibit state officials from confiscating guns during a declared emergency.

“At a time when the federal government is growing at an out-of-control rate, Kevin Calvey is actively promoting a return to federalism and the use of the Tenth Amendment to rein in Washington, D.C.,” said GOA Vice-Chairman Tim Macy.

“As a member of Congress, Calvey will oppose any new restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms, and he will also fight to repeal unconstitutional gun laws that are on the books.”
