Credibility: J. C. Watts' endorsement of political newcomer James Lankford in the 5th congressional district's crowded Republican primary no doubt will give Lankford some increased credibility with GOP stalwarts (as in primary election voters). The field now includes six candidates and a runoff seems a certainty; former Rep. Kevin Calvey generally is acknowledged to be the front-runner and the battle seems to be for the No. 2 runoff spot. Watts' endorsement could go a long way toward helping Lankford into that spot.

Bad Form: Cox Channel 37's telecast of the Thunder-Lakers playoff game last week went suddenly went to a freeze frame around halftime without explanation; it appeared to be a system failure somewhere. Then, I discovered the game on ESPN, leading me to conclude that when ESPN picks up a game, any local telecast goes kaput because of NBA strictures. No explanation yet; mine seems as good as any.

As Good As It Gets: Students of the language will enjoy, as I do, reading the words of Charles G. Hill at www.dustbury.com. Brother Hill has a marvelous penchant for making even the mundane seem interesting; his ability to string words together is entertaining and his headlines are universally intriguing.

: Speaking of blogospheric friends, Jean Warner at www.oklahomawomen.blogspot.com continues to excel in covering anything and everything having to do with Oklahoma women. Whether it's politics or something else, Jean has it.
Class:
Think what you will, say what you will, of George W. Bush's presidency, but you've got to give it to him for the way he's handled himself in the 14 months since he left office. He's not involved himself in second-guessing Barack Obama or taking pot-shots at him. He's not lowered himself into the political gutter snipping. It's ovbviously a conscious decision, one to be applauded. Classy.
Ticked Off?
Capitol wags say there's no one more ticked off at GOP schools superintendent candidate Shawn Hime of Enid today than his former boss, Sandy Garrett. Hime attacked his primary opponent, Janet Barresi, for a donation to Garrett's campaign...and he threw Garrett into the Gene Stipe Cabal of neer-do-wells in the process. That apparently sent Garrett's anger level over the top. One of Garrett's employees said this morning, "the whole department is ticked off at Shawn Himes." Hime used to work for Garrett in the super's office. And Hime failed to mention that he himself donated to Garrett...twice, total of $295.
Let's Go Thunder: The Oklahoma City Thunder squares off against the defending champ Lakers in LA tonight at 9:30. The series is even at 2-2 and IF the Thunder can pull out a win on the Lakers' home court...IF....
