Gun Rights Advocate Endorses Kevin Calvey

Retired Graham County, Arizona Sheriff and outspoken Second Amendment rights advocate Richard Mack endorsed Kevin Calvey for Congress today.

“It gives me great pleasure to endorse Kevin Calvey for U.S. Congress District 5 in Oklahoma,” Sheriff Mack said.

As Sheriff, Richard Mack filed suit against the federal government to overturn sections of the Brady handgun control bill. Mack argued that unfunded mandates on state officers were unconstitutional. In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court sided with Mack and struck down portions of the Brady bill that violated the Tenth Amendment.

While Sheriff, Mack was named Elected Official of the Year by the Arizona-New Mexico Coalition of Counties in 1994, received the NRA Law Officer of the Year, was inducted into the NRA Hall of Fame, and received the Gun Owners of America Defender of the Second Amendment Award. He has written several books on Second Amendment rights and law enforcement.

“I am honored to have the support of Sheriff Mack,” Calvey said. “I share Sheriff Mack’s zeal for Second Amendment and Tenth Amendment rights and will defend the right of law-abiding Americans to keep and bear arms whether for sport or self defense.”
