Glenn Coffee Refutes Claim By Ivan Holmes

Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee today refuted a claim by former Democratic Party Chairman Ivan Holmes in which Holmes alleges an intoxicated Coffee called him at home last week and threatened him.
Coffee's comments came in response to an inquiry from The McCarville Report Online after a Missouri blog posted a story in which Holmes infers it was Coffee who called him last Thursday night, but then says the caller "claimed to be" Coffee.
Here's what Holmes, the blog alleges, wrote: "Last Thursday I received a late night phone call from a man who identified himself as Sen. Coffee. This individual sounded as if he were intoxicated. Slurring his words, he said he heard I was thinking about holding a press conference on the ethics report he turned in concerning his travel, lodging, and meal reimbursement in 2008 and I better be careful of what I did or I would be sorry."
Holmes then uses that premise to launch further attacks on Coffee.
A Coffee spokesman said the senator was honored by the Northwest Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce that evening, attended with his family and then went home and went to bed: "This is a sleazy and pathetic political attack. Perhaps Mr. Holmes should check his Caller ID before he makes these crazy accusations. No such call was ever made by Senator Coffee."
"This (blog) is absolute sleaze," said one infuriated former Oklahoma Republican Party official. "Did Holmes pay to have this printed? I know blogs don't follow journalistic guidelines, but this one seems intent on constantly printing lies and attacking Republicans with lies."
Yesterday, a claim by Democratic party activist Frosty Troy that involved Coffee and a call allegedly made by Governor Henry on Coffee's behalf was labeled "absolute fiction" by a Henry spokesman.
