Military's 'Political Correctness' Draws Vet's Fire
The military's "political correctness" that resulted in the prosecution and conviction of Army Lt. Michael Behenna of Edmond and resulted in another prosecution, this time of Navy Seals, is criticized today by Rep. Rex Duncan, who says the Seals should be praised, not prosecuted.
Duncan, Sand Springs Republican who served in Iraq in the Special Forces and today commands a reserve regiment, said, “Ahmed Hashim Abed was responsible for the 2004 murder of four Americans and the subsequent mutilation and public display of their bodies on a bridge in Fallujah. These pictures showed the world what kind of monsters our troops were fighting and continue to face today. The men who brought Ahmed Hashim Abed to justice should be praised, not prosecuted.”
Ahmed Hashim Abed allegedly masterminded the 2004 murder of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah. The four bodies were mutilated, burned, and two were hung from a bridge.
According to news reports, Ahmed Hashim Abed claims he was hit during his capture, citing a bloody lip as evidence. As a result, three SEALs – Matthew McCabe, Jonathan Keefe and Julio Huertas – now face assault charges and court martial.
“The political correctness being practiced by the Navy brass is appalling and will do more harm to our military efforts overseas than the direct efforts of Ahmed Hashim Abed,” Duncan said. “President Obama should ask for the immediate resignation of the Navy Admiral responsible for this travesty of justice.
Duncan, an attorney, is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a colonel in the Oklahoma Army National Guard. His district includes Pawnee County and parts of Noble, Payne and Osage Counties.
Duncan has served 30 years in the Guard, Reserves and active duty. He volunteered for active duty following the 9/11 terrorist attack and served 16 months as a Special Forces officer with the Special Operations Command-Central. His duty assignments included the Middle East and Horn of Africa. He currently serves as Commander of the 189th Regiment, Regional Training Institute in Oklahoma City.
