The Gadfly On The Wall

Kids As Lottery Shills: Why would anyone be surprised that now we have elementary school students shilling for the state lottery in television commercials? Okay, the lottery is "for education." Does that mean we begin indoctrinating our kids that gambling is good? Isn't this part of a ploy to grow a new generation of gamblers down the road? Shame.
Shut The Hell Up: So Sarah Palin is now out with a book "telling all" about friction between her and her camp and John McCain and his camp in the 2008 presidential campaign. This continues the sniping between the two camps that began even before the election was over. It covers neither camp in glory; in the "old days," those who worked in campaigns, and candidates, considered what they learned, for the most part, to be privileged information. If they shared it at all, it was years later in the historic sense. Few exceptions, but that was the rule. Today, it's more crass...and coarse...and classless.
A Signal...And A Guess: Governor Henry told a Shawnee audience he's not going to run for the U. S. Senate next year...that he's not inclined to return to the practice of law when he leaves office...and he doesn't want to become a lobbyist. What's left? A vice presidency, or something else (say, dean of the Law School), at the University of Oklahoma...and the presidency itself down the road.
