Murphy Fails To Make Final Judge List

Former Judge Bob Murphy's name is not among the five applicants being considered for the post he vacated in June to run for the state Senate.

Murphy said last month that he had applied for the Payne County associate district judgeship because many people indicated that they wanted him to stay on the bench and didn't realize that he had to resign to run for the Senate seat.

"I reapplied out of respect for their wishes," Murphy said.

He said the code of judicial conduct required that he resign.

Murphy said he respects the decision of the Judicial Nominating Commission, which will forward three names to Gov. Brad Henry for consideration.
