Maughan Files, Opposes Tribal Casino
With his official filing for Oklahoma County District 2 County Commissioner today, Republican Brian Maughan says he opposes a proposed casino to be located at Interstate 35 and Britton Road in northeast Oklahoma City.
“This is an outrageous example of greed run amuck," Maughan said. "It will harm the economy of northeast Oklahoma City and Oklahoma County and will do no tangible good except to enrich a few greedy promoters."
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is in the midst of a public comment period regarding the proposal. That comment period ends June 9th, and Maughan says concerned Oklahomans should let the BIA hear their voices loud and clear. “Brent Rinehart has been publicly silent on this issue, I think the public deserves to know precisely where I stand, and I’m writing to the BIA to tell them as well. Those ‘reservation shopping’ promoters need to know I will aggressively oppose their plan as well.”
“Now is the time for leadership and accountability, and county officials should be among those leading the charge against this fraud. The voters, our state’s sovereign tribes and the horse racing industry agreed to the current arrangement, and we should stand by that agreement. We simply do not need more gambling establishments in Oklahoma County," Maughan said.
