Edmondson Rules McMahan Can Draw Pay
Attorney General Drew Edmondson says indicted state auditor Jeff McMahan can continue receiving his salary from the state even thought McMahan has turned over operations of his office to an assistant. McMahan turned over the day-to-day operations of the office to assistant State Auditor Michelle Day in January after he and his wife were indicted on nine felony counts of conspiracy, fraud and racketeering.
Edmondson says in an opinion released Monday there is no authority for an elected official to voluntarily step aside or to suspend himself without pay.
