McMahan, Francis Stipe Targets Of Federal Probe

Auditor and Inspector Jeff McMahan and the brother of former Senator Gene Stipe, Francis Stipe, are the targets of a federal investigation that likely will indict Stipe today, The Oklahoman's Tony Thornton reports.
Speculation about federal interest in McMahan had increased in recent weeks with revelations he and his wife have been interviewed multiple times by FBI agents. Thornton reports that McMahan's spokeswoman, Terri Watkins, appeared before a federal grand jury in Muskogee on Thursday. It's believed she was asked about what McMahan told her about trips he took with southeastern Oklahoma abstract company owner Steve Phipps, Stipe's partner at the time.
