Party-Switcher David Hanigar Donated To McMahan

David Hanigar, who filed for auditor & inspector as a Republican, joined the party last October after years as a donor to Democratic candidates, including now-disgraced former Auditor Jeff McMahan, records show.

Hanigar, of Edmond, switched his registration from Democrat to Republican in October 2009.

He donated to McMahan in 2004 and 2007, and made repeated donations to Attorney General Drew Edmondson in 2006 and 2008.

Hanigar worked in the auditor & inspector's office, including the period of McMahan's tenure.

Hanigar faces Republican State Chairman Gary Jones in the GOP primary. Jones has resigned effective today. He sought the post in 2002 and 2006, losing by narrow margins to McMahan each time.

Incumbent Democrat Steve Burrage, appointed by Governor Henry when McMahan resigned following his conviction on federal corruption charges, is seeking election.
