Ted Stevens Faces 7-Count Indictment

WASHINGTON — Alaska Senator Ted Stevens allegedly made false statements to cover up gifts given to him by an oil contractor seeking his help on Capitol Hill, according to a seven-count federal indictment unveiled Tuesday.

Stevens, 84, is the longest-serving Republican in the U.S. Senate and has been under investigation for more than a year, with a heavy focus on work done to his Girdwood, Alaska, ski-community house.

Grand Jury Indicts Five For Use Of Equipment

A multicounty grand jury indictment accuses five people connected with the Kiamichi Technical Center in Atoka of conspiring to use school equipment for political purposes, it is reported today.

Those indicted are Machele Leign Callicoat, Rebecca Ann Ward, Norman Lewis Ranger, Chad Allen Hull and Davey Joe Sutton.

They are accused of one count of conspiracy for allegedly using school computer equipment to print campaign material supporting Ranger’s candidacy for the school’s board.

Callicoat, Ward and Hull are employed at the school in Atoka. Ranger is a school board member and Sutton is former director of the school and Ranger’s campaign manager.

Ranger, Hull and Ward also are accused of four counts of computer crimes and one count of embezzlement. Callicoat is named on one count of computer crimes and one embezzlement count.

The indictment was unsealed Monday in district court in Atoka.
