Lankford Scores Three Committee Assignments

Congressman-elect James Lankford was awarded a rare trifecta for a freshman member today, being named to three committees in his first term representing the 5th Congressional District.

Lankford has been appointed to the House Oversight and Government Reform; Transportation and Infrastructure; and Budget Committees.

"I'm delighted and honored by the responsibility Speaker Boehner and the Steering Committee has afforded me through these appointments," Lankford said.

"It's a little like Christmas morning, because all three of my committees will have significant roles in the next Congress and the large incoming freshman class made the committee process very competitive. I understand most freshman members were named to only two committees."

Lankford is one of 87 freshman Republican members in the new GOP Majority in the House. He will serve under Chairmen Paul Ryan of Wisconsin (Budget), Darrell Issa of California (Oversight and Government Reform), and John Mica of Florida (Transportation and Infrastructure).

Lankford will hold the Transportation Committee seat currently held by outgoing Congresswoman Mary Fallin.

He will be the first Oklahoman on Budget in many years.

"These are three vital committees, and I look forward to the challenge," Lankford continued. "We have a lot of work to do.

“Clearly, our Federal government is in need of serious reform, and Chairman Issa promises to put many federal programs and agencies under the microscope. I plan to ask a simple question of many agency heads: 'Why?' Why do we do what we do and what benefit is it to the citizens of our country?

"Transportation issues are of vital importance to Oklahoma, and I hope to drill down into the road, aeronautics and water issues facing our state and its economy," he continued. "And clearly, our federal budget is in need of serious management, and I look forward to joining Congressman Ryan in writing a realistic budget that will get our nation's fiscal house back in order," Lankford concluded.

The 112th Congress will be sworn in on Wednesday, January 5. Lankford will hold a ceremonial swearing-in to which all friends and supporters are invited in the House Agriculture Committee room in the Longworth House Office Building, hosted by Congressman Frank Lucas, Chairman of the Agriculture Committee, on Tuesday afternoon, January 4.
