James Lankford and Rep. Mike Thompson topped The McCarville Report Online's poll of possible runoff candidates in the race for the Republican nomination for Congress in the 5th District.
Political newcomer Lankford got 412 votes (47%) of the 865 votes cast in two days. Thompson got 203 votes (23%). Former Rep. Kevin Calvey got 141 votes. Rick Flanigan had 61 votes, Rep. Shane Jett had 29 votes and Dr. Johnny Roy had 19 votes.
The unscientific poll asked readers which two of the six GOP candidates would be in the runoff. The polls tend to demonstrate the ability of the candidates to motivate their supporters via social media (Facebook, Twitter) to vote for them.
