Janet Barresi topped Shawn Hime in The McCarville Report Online's poll measuring support of the two Republicans who want to be superintendent of public instruction.
Barresi, retired dentist, speech pathologist and charter school pioneer, got 52 percent (363 votes) of the 695 votes cast in two days. Hime, a former Department of Education official who is now the superintendent of Enid schools, got 46 percent (317 votes). Two percent voted for "a dark horse."
Both candidates are in their first campaigns for public office.
TMRO's polls are not scientific; they measure only the support of readers who voted.
