Terrill Launches Ethics Counter-Offensive

(Editor's Note: Moore Rep. Randy Terrill, who faces allegations of ethical lapses and who is at war with House Speaker Kris Steele and others, says there are "real" ethical violations occurring among House members and he is now beginning to level accusations.)

By Wayne Greene/Tulsa World ~ The state's higher education system gets close to $1 billion a year in appropriations, all of which will pass through a committee led by Rep. Earl Sears.

Sears, chairman of the House Appropriations and Budget Committee, is the father of Hollye Hunt, associate state chancellor for governmental affairs, which makes her the state regents' top lobbyist, several lawmakers say.

"If it's not a conflict of interest, there surely is an appearance of a conflict of interest," said state Rep. Randy Terrill, R-Moore.

Sears said questions about his family have less to do with good government than it does with Terrill's being unable to get his agenda passed.

"Not only is it ludicrous, but it's insulting," said Sears, R-Bartlesville.
