OKforTea Severs Ties To Gerhart, Alliance
Jamison Faught of Muskogee Politico reports today that OKforTea, the state's largest and most active Tea Party group, has severed its ties with Al Gerhart of the Sooner Tea Party and the Oklahoma Constitutional Alliance, a once-statewide group put together to present solidarity on conservative issues.
The action came after an email sent to six House members by Gerhart was detailed on The McCarville Report Online and after a letter to GOP donors from Gerhart in which he referred to House members supporting House Speaker Kris Steele as "thugs."
An OKforTea email, signed by each of OKforTea's organizers, stated, "Though OKforTEA has enjoyed being a member of the OCA and though we understand and appreciate its mission, we must withdraw from membership as of March 15, 2011. Please remove the name of our organization from the list of members and any printed materials or websites, immediately."
