Russell Says He'll Push Gun Rights Bills

Open carry, concealed
carry on campus his goals
Senator Steve Russell wants to expand gun rights and says he will propose bills to allow adults to openly carry a firearm and permit concealed carry on college campuses.

The Oklahoma City Republican said today he's optimistic both measures will receive bipartisan support in the GOP-controlled Legislature.

An open carry bill passed the Legislature last year, but was vetoed by Governor Brad Henry. Governor Mary Fallin has indicated she supports open carry.

Russell's plan to allow concealed guns on campus is expected to draw bitter opposition from university officials, The Associated Press reported. Chancellor of Higher Education Glen Johnson recently told lawmakers that all 25 public college and university presidents oppose the idea.
