Fallin Defends Glenn Coffee Appointment

From The Tulsa World ~ Gov. Mary Fallin on Tuesday defended her decision to appoint a termed-out lawmaker as secretary of state.

Fallin tapped former Senate Pro Tem Glenn Coffee, R-Oklahoma City, to be secretary of state despite a law that says former lawmakers must wait two years before they can be hired by the state.

The law makes an exception if the salary comes from funds such as fees or private sources that are not appropriated by the Legislature. Fallin's comments were in response to questions from reporters after Insurance Commissioner John Doak's recent appointment of three former lawmakers to fill posts and to be paid with non-appropriated dollars.
