Derby Cites Food Stamp Debit Card Abuse

Rep. David Derby today called on the Department of Human Services to implement greater control over the use of state-issued food-stamp debit cards.

“I continue to receive complaints from constituents who have witnessed these cards being used for frivolous non-food purchases,” said Derby, R-Owasso.

“DHS needs to address this issue and prevent these debit cards from being used at casinos, spas, nail salons, and similar outlets. Oklahoma taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize someone’s gambling habit.”

Derby said he may seek to address the issue through legislation if DHS officials do not act.
