Contract Signing Delayed 30 Days As Probe Begins

President Pro Tempore Designate Brian Bingman's office announced today that the Office of Juvenile Affairs is delaying the signing of a contract for 30 days as the Senate investigates the circumstances of how the vendor was selected.

At issue is Senator Harry Coates, Seminole Republican, his affair with a Capitol lobbyist and her involvement as a consultant to a firm for which the two helped gain a contract.

Bingman held a meeting with Gene Christian and others from the Office of Juvenile Affairs on Thursday. At Bingman's request, his office said, the OJA agreed to delay its contract signing by 30 days while the Senate’s "inquiry into the serious allegations and issues surrounding the OJA contract continues."
