Dorman Questions 'Firings' Of House Staffers

Rep. Joe Dorman, D-Rush Springs, said today he's concerned that a number of House staffers have been fired but offered no details in a cryptic statement.

“Today in the House of Representatives, we witnessed the sudden and unexpected firings of many staff members. Here we are weeks before Christmas and employees are being cut right and left to shore up our budget shortfall in the House according to Republican leadership. My question is: what happened to the more than $6 million surplus the House of Representatives had only two years ago? As the Legislature is not held accountable under the Open Records Act, I have no way of knowing where these surplus dollars were spent, but I plan in the coming session to demand those answers and change House rules to make our legislature more transparent.”
