Leonard Says He Rejected Poultry Industry Money

Ryan Leonard said today that poultry industry interests offered to donate to his campaign for the Republican nomination for attorney general but he declined the offer because, "I believe it is not appropriate to accept money from defendants in a pending case before the state."

His comment to The McCarville Report Online came after TMRO reported that Scott Pruitt, Leonard's GOP primary opponent, had accepted $26,000 in donations from officials of Tyson Foods and others; Tyson is among Arkansas companies sued by Attorney General Drew Edmondson over pollution of the Illinois River watershed.

Asked if he had accepted similar donations, Leonard replied, "No. I was offered similar contributions and didn't accept them. Regardless of one's position on the lawsuit, I believe it is not appropriate to accept money from defendants in a pending case before the state. It's not good judgment in my opinion."
