Numbers Nut: My late father, Millard D. McCarville, was, at his heart, an accountant. He could add, multiply and divide any number or set of numbers in his head at flash speed, no doubt the result of native talent and a Classic Catholic Education circa 1910s rural America. So I suppose my fixation with numbers of all sorts comes to me via exposure to his talent at an early age.
The Gadfly On The Numbers
By Mike McCarville
His ability, however, was not included in the genes passed on to his son, who needs a pencil and paper (or, preferably, a calculator) for the most basic arith-matic exercise.
Nonethless, I have this fixation for numbers: They measure financial success (or failure), track the pulse of the public, measure progress, provide relative measurements.
Today's relative measurements exercise is prompted by an email remark from a reader, who noted that blogger Matt Drudge now averages 26,729,522 site visits per day and Michelle Malkin has a bajillion daily visits herself, although she's not quite up to Drudge's standard.
Logical extension of the Drudge/Malkin comparison: How do Oklahoma blogs stack up, numbers-wise?
Hard to tell, since many blogs/sites don't make their stats available; but a few do and here's a recap of their daily visit averages:
Oklahoma Political News Service Legislator's Blog - 7
OKeveryman (Tea Party) - 14
The Otter Limits - 30
Muskogee Politico - 61
ZTruth - 200
Dustbury - 482
Muskogee Politico - 61
ZTruth - 200
Dustbury - 482
Irons In The Fire - 493
Political Realities - 579 (Friday's total visits)
BatesLine - 645
The McCarville Report Online - 804
These numbers show, in spades, just how influential Drudge has become; he gets more visits per hour than any of us get in a day...or a week, near as I can figure. Wish my Dad was still around; he could tell me in an instant how many visits Drudge gets per second.
