GOP Labor Candidate Criticizes Benge

Republican Labor Commissioner candidate Jason Reese today called on House Speaker Chris Benge and the House as a whole to support a proposed reduction in the cap on property tax increases.
Reese joins GOP Rep. David Dank, who yesterday criticized Benge for his failure to support reforms Dank is pushing.
Reese said the House leadership is failing to be on the side of taxpayers in this tough economy.
“I have spent my campaign standing up for small business and find that I'm repeating myself from just two weeks ago in yet another instance where the House Republican leadership has failed to lead on an agenda of pro-growth and pro-small business policies in Oklahoma. I don't enjoy calling out members of my own party, but we all ought to be promoting what's best for Oklahoma...and higher taxes clearly are not.”
Reese explained the broad impact of increased property taxes on Oklahoma's economy, "In a time of economic belt-tightening, failing to curtail taxes is foolish. But what many may not realize is the impact increased property taxes have on small business as well. Those taxes get passed on to Oklahoma consumers, so the House leadership is really double-dipping here. That's unacceptable...in any economy.”
